    Description

    NASA Scientist Lunar Orbiter Project Manager Cliff Nelson Bookends. Two brass & wood bookends. NACA NASA Langley Research Center 1941-1972. Each measures 9 x 6.25 x 3 inches.
    Clifford H. Nelson worked in Instrument Research Division until about 1958. Nelson was selected for the Lunar Orbiter project and pulled from I.R.D.

    Clifford H. Nelson spent his entire career with NASA and was a space scientist, doing pioneering work in jet propulsion and rocketry. A longtime resident of Newport News, Va., he became a prominent figure in America's space program by managing the Lunar Orbiter Project which mapped the Moon for Apollo landing sites. Partnered by Boeing. He was appointed Director of Space for Langley Research Center and retired from NASA in 1972, receiving NASA's Exceptional Service Medal for civilian achievement.
