Description
This is a vintage embroidered patch to commemorate the missions of the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger. STS-8 was the eighth Space Shuttle mission, and the third flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger. It was commanded by veteran astronaut Richard Truly, and he was accompanied by rookie astronauts Dan Brandenstein, Guion Bluford, Dale Gardner and William Thornton. This flight was historically notable because Guion Bluford was the first African American to fly in space. For condition, please look at the photo, but this patch is in great shape. This awesome patch is large and it is extremely colorful.
The background is fully embroidered in dark blue with a silver and red embroidered border.
The rest of the patch is embroidered in gold, brown, gray, tan, black, yellow, light blue, sky blue and metallic silver.
It is very rare
(and expensive!)
to have a patch embroidered in 12 colors!!!
We are not sure of the age or origin of the patch – it came from a collection.
See photo for size.
Although the patch was not used, there may be a loose thread or two.
Note that colors may vary from one computer monitor to the next.
Size:
Patch is 4” in diameter and extends out another 3/8” because of the booster engine.
