Since 1997, the Platinum Eagle Coin has been issued relatively regularly along with the Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle. There was no platinum eagle release from 2009-2013 and none in 2015, but at least 6,000 coins have been minted per year other than that. More recently, mintage figures have increased to about 40,000 parts a year. Platinum Eagles were once used to be fractional but those were discontinued after 2008 by the US Mint.

The reverse features an American bald eagle in mid-flight as the sun breaks the horizon behind it. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is minted at the top of the coin, with .9995 platinum just below it. The face value of this platinum coin is 0 and that is minted at the bottom of the coin, denoting the backing of the US Government.
